Project Overview

Kingston Cleaning Services was contracted by Mitie to carry out an extensive external building clean at Elland Road Police Station. The site, located in a high-traffic area, had developed significant carbon build-up on all elevations over many years. During our initial site survey and patch testing, it became clear that a specialist approach would be needed due to the scale and complexity of the contamination. To ensure uninterrupted operations at the police station, KCS developed a comprehensive site plan that included detailed elevation drawings, strict time schedules, and coordinated traffic management. This meticulous planning allowed us to execute the project safely and efficiently, minimising disruption to the facility’s daily operations.

What We Did

Working closely with a specialist cleaning chemical supplier, we selected a tailored product designed to effectively break down carbon deposits. The cleaning process began with pre-soaking the surface in water, followed by applying the selected chemical using stiff telescopic pole kits to agitate the grime. This was left to dwell for 2–3 hours to ensure maximum effectiveness. Next, the treated areas were lightly rinsed using low-pressure, heated water to safely lift away the loosened carbon without damaging the surface. In some areas, this process was repeated to achieve optimal results. The final outcome dramatically restored the building’s appearance and protected the structural integrity of the facade. Regular removal of carbon deposits not only enhances a building’s aesthetic but also contributes to its longevity, environmental compliance, and public health standards.
